UK-based energy firm Sound Energy announced on Monday that it has successfully completed a regional prospecting study for natural hydrogen and helium in Morocco, identifying several high-potential zones in partnership with Getech Group Plc.

The study, conducted as part of a collaboration agreement signed on October 28, 2024, marks the first phase of a joint initiative between Sound Energy and Getech, a British company specializing in the identification of natural resource opportunities using advanced geoscientific tools.

According to Sound Energy, the results confirm the presence of “significantly prospective areas,” paving the way for a more technical second phase. The two companies now plan to establish a joint venture to secure exclusive exploration and production rights in the identified regions. Future work is expected to include geophysical surveys and drilling operations aimed at verifying the presence of commercially viable deposits.

John Argent, Sound Energy’s Vice President of Geoscience, said the study utilized Getech’s proprietary tools based on so-called “genetic geological” methodologies. These techniques helped reduce geological uncertainty across Moroccan territory and pinpoint promising exploration targets.

“Several high-potential targets have now been defined and will be central to our focused exploration program,” Argent said in a statement.

The company aims to leverage its local partnerships and operational expertise to strengthen its presence in the emerging natural hydrogen and helium sector. The announcement marks a key milestone in Sound Energy’s broader strategy to diversify its energy portfolio in Morocco.
