British energy company Sound Energy has begun initial gas production at its Tendrara project in eastern Morocco, the company announced Wednesday.
According to the company, the first quantities of gas from well TE-6 were delivered to the project’s collection system, marking the start of the operational phase ahead of the planned liquefaction unit.
The company said the step followed the installation of the final monitoring and control system late last month, with subsequent technical testing and the commencement of gradual operations.
Sound Energy noted that the early production phase allows gas to flow through the full system, focusing on processing and conditioning the gas before it is sent to the micro-LNG plant under construction at the site.
The company added that this progress is “essential” to implementing a gas sale agreement with Afriquia Gaz, which has committed to purchasing 100 million standard cubic meters of gas annually for ten years from the start of production.
The Tendrara project aims, in its first phase, to produce 100 million cubic meters of gas per year, with potential expansion to 400 million cubic meters annually in the future.
