Manchester City secured a 2-0 victory over Morocco’s Wydad Athletic Club on Wednesday in the opening match of Group G in the FIFA Club World Cup, held at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
City took an early lead just two minutes into the match, with forward Phil Foden finding the back of the net. Wydad responded with several attempts on goal but struggled with accuracy and decision-making in the final third.
The English side doubled its advantage in the 42nd minute, as Belgian winger Jérémy Doku capitalized on a defensive lapse to score the second goal.
Wydad entered the second half with renewed energy in search of an early goal to get back into the game. Despite opportunities on both sides, the scoreline remained unchanged through the final whistle.
Manchester City finished the match with 10 men after defender Rico Lewis was sent off in the 88th minute following a second yellow card.
Wydad is set to face Italy’s Juventus on Sunday at 5 p.m. local time in their next group stage fixture.
Meanwhile, Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates will face Juventus in the other Group G matchup at 2 a.m. local time on Thursday.
The person who streaked onto the pitch during the match WAC vs MAN City, holding a banner that read “Stop killing dogs and cats in Morocco,” I’m sure, doesn’t even know where Morocco is on the map. He is completely clueless, just nodding along like a sheep led to slaughter. He is just trying to be some sort of American Brigitte Bardot, which frankly, is a bridge too far. This reminds me of a few of my high school students in the United States who barraged me with questions like: “Do you have cars?” “Do you have internet at home?” “Do you own a car?” “Do you live in houses or tents?”
