To address Morocco’s ongoing water crisis, the government has ramped up nationwide awareness campaigns, combining mass media, digital platforms, and educational partnerships, according to Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka.
In response to a parliamentary inquiry, Baraka detailed efforts launched under the 2020–2027 National Drinking Water and Irrigation Program. Since 2022, the ministry has deployed audiovisual campaigns that reached over 1.3 billion views across TV, radio, and digital platforms, urging citizens to adopt sustainable water habits.
The “L’Ma Dialna” platform, launched in 2023, has recorded 1.4 million visits and over 7,700 online posts, complemented by a mobile app and WhatsApp hotline for reporting water waste.
In schools, the annual “Water Classes” initiative teaches primary students water conservation, while the national utility (ONEE) supports outreach with youth-focused apps, facility tours, and seasonal media content.
Baraka emphasized the pivotal role of national media in spreading data-driven messaging and encouraging long-term behavior change.
Enough is not done yet . Raising people’awareness to adopting a sustainable water management only through chanting slogans is likely to bear no fruits .
