The UK and Morocco agreed to sign two deals to bring British defense investment and technology to Morocco and build Morocco’s defense industry, as the two countries reinvigorated their bilateral relations after London backed Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara.
The two deals are part of a broader push to expand economic, security, and industrial relations between the two countries in areas that include water management, smart logistics, green technology, and sports infrastructure.
Defense investment partnership:
One of the key agreements signed is a Memorandum of Understanding with BAE Systems, a British multinational specializing in aerospace, defense, and cybersecurity, alongside Morocco’s National Defence Administration and its Investment and Export Development Agency.
The deal focuses on investment and capability development in Morocco’s defense sector, aiming to strengthen local industrial capacity.
Known for delivering cutting-edge technologies across land, sea, cyber, and space, BAE Systems brings expertise in areas such as missile defense, radar systems, and AI-driven military solutions, supporting Morocco’s ambition to modernize and localize its defence infrastructure.
Working closely with customers and local partners in over 40 countries, BAE Systems delivers critical military capabilities, protects national security, and ensures the safety of vital information and infrastructure worldwide.
Their technology powers radars that intercept drone and missile attacks, while they invest in counter-drone systems, and digital integration, and apply artificial intelligence to their operations and products. BAE Systems delivers defense technology cost-effectively and at pace.
Industry links strengthened:
Another Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between the UK Defence and Security Trade Association, ADS Group, and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development. This agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between the UK and Moroccan defense industries.
The ADS Group is the premier trade association for the UK’s aerospace, defense, security, and space industries.
It represents over 1,500 member companies, ranging from major global corporations to innovative small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
ADS works to promote the interests of these industries, facilitate collaboration between businesses and government, support exports, and help develop policies that enhance the UK’s defense and security capabilities.
Morocco and the United Kingdom pledged to continue expanding their cooperation in the field of defence, building on a dynamic program of activities agreed upon through the annual Joint Military Commission.
As Atlantic maritime nations, both countries have committed to exploring opportunities to enhance maritime collaboration.
They also agreed to strengthen cooperation in the defense industry, including investment in industrial projects, by drawing on UK defense industry expertise and capabilities to support the development of advanced defense solutions.
