Morocco has dropped to second place among tomato exporters to Spain for the current agricultural season, despite an overall increase in export volume, according to Spanish customs data (Datacomex) published by agriculture news platform Hortoinfo.
Between August 2024 and April 2025, Morocco exported 27.14 million kilograms of tomatoes to Spain. While this figure marks a year-on-year increase, it was not enough to retain its position as Spain’s top supplier — a title it had held for several years.
The shift comes amid heightened competition from both European and Maghreb producers seeking to meet Spain’s strong demand for tomatoes, a staple in the country’s agricultural imports.
The data highlights the growing competitiveness of the regional produce market and signals potential pressure on Morocco’s share in European agricultural exports, despite its strong production capacity and favorable climate conditions.
