Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit affirmed Monday that all regions in Morocco are receiving drinking water, despite consecutive years of drought. Speaking during a parliamentary Q&A, Laftit emphasized that, thanks to royal directives and ongoing efforts, “no area in Morocco suffers from thirst.”
He dismissed claims of water-deprived regions, asserting that supplies reach all areas by any means necessary, and that no citizen should be denied access to potable water. The minister acknowledged, however, that some areas face low water pressure, which is being addressed through targeted interventions.
Laftit also highlighted challenges in rural water distribution, noting that individual household connections remain difficult in remote villages. While full coverage has not been achieved in all douars, he stressed that authorities continue working toward more efficient delivery systems.
His comments come amid mounting public concern over water scarcity, particularly in rural zones hardest hit by climate-related stress.
