Moroccan football giants Wydad Casablanca have emerged as a surprise contender in the growing list of clubs reportedly interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo, as uncertainty looms over his future at Al Nassr.

According to Marca, Wydad, one of Africa’s four representatives in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, are exploring the possibility of bringing the Portuguese superstar to Morocco for the tournament, which kicks off on June 14.

The move, while ambitious, is seen as a bold attempt to boost the club’s international profile and draw global attention to both the team and the competition, the same source noted.

Ronaldo’s situation at Al Nassr has grown increasingly unstable after a disappointing season that fell short of expectations. While the Saudi club still has two games left in the league, its hopes for an AFC Champions League spot are slim, and talks over a contract renewal remain unresolved.

Wydad’s interest, though speculative, aligns with a wider trend among Club World Cup participants hoping to attract marquee players for the tournament’s first-ever 32-team edition.

Whether a short-term deal with Wydad could materialize remains uncertain, especially given the financial and logistical challenges. But the Moroccan club’s ambition signals the pulling power of the new-format Club World Cup, and the continued global magnetism of Cristiano Ronaldo’s name.
