Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita on Tuesday laid out a series of concrete actions that demonstrate the Kingdom’s practical commitment to the Palestinian cause, beyond what he called occasional, performative gestures or political point-scoring.
Speaking at a press conference during the 5th meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, co-hosted by Morocco and the Netherlands, he said Morocco has consistently combined diplomatic advocacy with concrete action on the ground.
“While statements and condemnations are important, the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people also need practical, tangible support,” he said, explaining that this philosophy has guided Morocco’s actions and is reflected in several key initiatives, in addition to its diplomatic and social efforts.
Morocco’s approach, Bourita emphasized, has never been about doing more than others, but about what the Kingdom can genuinely offer and how it can meaningfully contribute to alleviating suffering and helping Palestinians move closer to securing their rights.
Amid the Gaza crisis, Morocco, guided by royal directives, became the only country to successfully airlift aid directly into the region, doing so twice and ensuring that vital support reached people without obstruction.
He added that Morocco has made it a priority to use its credibility and trusted relationships with all parties to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people on a daily basis.
These efforts contributed to the opening of a crossing in 2022 that allowed Palestinians to travel to Jordan and beyond, thanks to Moroccan-American mediation.
Bourita highlighted that the Kingdom has also played a key role in stabilizing the Palestinian financial system and maintaining cooperation between Israeli and Palestinian banks, thereby preventing a total collapse, efforts achieved through extensive Moroccan-led negotiations and meetings.
Beyond diplomacy and negotiation, Morocco, through the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, provides ongoing, daily support to Jerusalem.
This includes providing basic necessities to thousands of Palestinian families, ensuring dozens of orphans have access to healthcare and education, funding schools and hospitals in Jerusalem, and supporting women’s initiatives and community resilience projects.
He reaffirmed Morocco’s belief that a two-state solution, where Palestine and Israel coexist peacefully, is the only viable path forward, despite ongoing Israeli aggression and a worsening situation.
Bourita warned that the current crisis must not pave the way for extremist approaches to take over, as this would endanger the future of the Palestinian cause.
He reaffirmed Morocco’s support for Palestinian institutions, emphasizing that a lasting solution is impossible without a functioning Palestinian Authority, which Morocco backs under the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas.
