The Casablanca Court of Appeal has postponed proceedings in the high-profile case of Reda A., known as “Turbo,” a suspected drug lord accused of kidnapping and murder, including the recent killing of Moroccan singer Rym Fikri’s husband.
The hearing, held Tuesday, was adjourned until June 9 to allow time for the court to re-summon Fikri and for the defense to be properly prepared, after the defendant told the court he had not yet appointed a lawyer.
Reda A. is being tried alongside five others, Saïd A., Mohamed J., Abbas M., Hassan M., and Zakaria D., on charges of kidnapping, unlawful detention, torture, and premeditated murder.
The appeal trial had previously faced multiple delays due to Reda’s absence, but his recent arrest in connection with the alleged murder of Fikri’s husband led to his transfer from prison for the current case.
Back in March 2022, an investigative judge at the Casablanca Court of Appeal ordered Reda’s prosecution for kidnapping using a motor vehicle, unlawful confinement, and premeditated murder.
Although sentenced to 21 years in prison in absentia by the Versailles court in 2021, Reda was acquitted in Morocco in April 2023 and released, only to be rearrested in connection with the Fikri case.
