A Moroccan peacekeeper from the Rapid Deployment Battalion was among two MONUSCO personnel killed in a tragic road accident on May 13 in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The incident occurred about 13 kilometers south of Kitchanga, when a United Nations convoy vehicle slid into a ravine and overturned.

The accident also claimed the life of a Congolese language assistant, while four other Moroccan peacekeepers were injured and transferred to the UN hospital in Goma for medical treatment.
