First President of the Court of Cassation and Deputy President of the Supreme Council of the Judicial Power (CSPJ) Mohamed Abdennabaoui met, in Rabat on Wednesday, with Attorney General and President of the Supreme Council of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Cabo Verde Luís José Tavares Landim, to discuss ways of bolstering judicial cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting, part of a series of talks between judicial officials from the two countries, provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and best practices between the two institutions in the context of the special ties between Morocco and Cabo Verde.

On this occasion, Abdennabaoui presented an overview of CSPJ’s remit and its role in reinforcing the independence of the judiciary in Morocco, referring to the far-reaching structural reforms undergone by the national judicial system in recent years.

Members of the Cape Verdean delegation gave a presentation on their country’s experience in reforming the judicial system, as well as on the powers of the Supreme Council of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and its administrative organization.

Landim told MAP that this visit is part of strengthening bilateral relations between the Republic of Cabo Verde and the Kingdom of Morocco in the judicial field, in particular on issues linked to the fight against transnational organized crime, which constitutes “a common challenge for both countries”.

Talks focused on exchanging expertise on questions of common interest, notably the fight against drug trafficking, terrorism and money laundering, he added, praising “Morocco’s pioneering experience, which has proven effective in the fight against transnational organized crime”.

The working visit by the Attorney General and President of Cabo Verde’s Supreme Council of Public Prosecution will continue until May 17, with the aim of developing mechanisms for judicial cooperation between the two countries.
