Morocco U-20 national team coach Mohamed Ouahbi expressed his delight after leading the “Atlas Cubs” to the semifinals of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt, following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sierra Leone on Monday.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Ouahbi acknowledged the challenge posed by Sierra Leone: “I knew it wouldn’t be an easy match. Sierra Leone’s level didn’t surprise me — I had said this before the game.”
Despite the difficulty of the encounter, Ouahbi praised his team’s performance. “We created many chances and secured the win in the end. I’m very happy to have qualified for the World Cup and we are aiming for even more. This is a hard-working group with great potential.”
Looking ahead to Thursday’s semifinal showdown against hosts Egypt, Ouahbi said: “It’s going to be a tough and intense match against a strong Arab side like Egypt. I know their capabilities well — they play with great spirit.”
Egypt secured their spot in the semifinals after edging past Ghana 5-4 on penalties at Suez Stadium earlier in the day.
