As Catholic cardinals prepare to elect a new pope, some are turning to an unlikely source for guidance: a Hollywood film.
According to a report by Politico, several of the 133 cardinals set to enter the Sistine Chapel on Wednesday have watched Conclave, a political drama starring Ralph Fiennes and directed by Edward Berger.
The film portrays the inner workings of a fictional papal conclave, with Fiennes playing Cardinal Thomas Lawrence, the dean tasked with overseeing a tense and scandal-plagued election.
One cleric involved in the upcoming conclave told Politico that cardinals found it “remarkably accurate,” especially given that many of them are unfamiliar with the intricacies of Vatican procedure.
