The Spanish maritime company Balearia will start operating a new route linking the port of Tarifa, southern Spain, to that of Tangier Ville from May 8.
The crossing will be operated by the fast ferry Avemar Dos, which has successfully completed docking trials as both ports. This marks the fourth connection by Balearia between Spain and Morocco.
The line will offer four daily round trips in each direction, with the frequency expected to increase gradually during the summer season, according to a press release by the company.
With an estimated duration of one hour, the crossing will initially be operated by Avemar Dos, before a second renovated fast ferry enters service soon.
The launch of this new line represents a strategic step in strengthening the company’s presence in Morocco, said Balearia’s CEO, Georges Bassoul.
As part of its energy transition, the company also plans to build two 100% electric, zero-emission fast ferries, which are expected to serve this route by 2027.
Active in Morocco since 2003, Balearia currently operates several maritime routes between Spanish and Moroccan ports across the Strait of Gibraltar.
