Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred is set to appear once again before the French judiciary in June 2025, as the appeals phase of his high-profile 2016 rape case begins. Lamjarred was convicted in 2023 by a French criminal court and sentenced to six years in prison for allegedly raping French woman Laura Prioul. He was released on temporary bail after spending one month in detention.
According to a French lawyer closely following the case, the appeal hearings will take place from June 2 to June 6 in a Paris court. Both Lamjarred and the plaintiff are expected to be present during the proceedings, which are drawing widespread public and media attention.
This appeal comes after years of legal back-and-forth, including multiple delays, conditional releases, and procedural complications. Lamjarred continues to proclaim his innocence and denies the charges against him.
Despite the legal turmoil, Lamjarred has maintained an active music career, releasing hit songs and performing across the Gulf region. His work often celebrates Moroccan culture and heritage, incorporating traditional Moroccan and Amazigh musical elements—a move that has helped him retain a strong fan base.
