Morocco has officially ended Hassan Tariq’s tenure as ambassador to Tunisia, effective March 24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates announced.

The move coincides with Tariq’s appointment by King Mohammed VI as the new Ombudsman of the Kingdom, succeeding Mohamed Benalilou, according to a statement published in the Official Gazette.

Tariq, who had served as Morocco’s envoy to Tunisia since 2019, holds a doctorate in public law from the Faculty of Legal, Economic, and Social Sciences in Rabat. He also previously coordinated Morocco’s network of public law and political science department heads.

Tariq had been recalled to Rabat in 2022 after Tunisian President Kais Saied received Brahim Ghali, leader of the Polisario Front, during the Japan-Africa summit (TICAD) hosted by Tunisia.
