Authorities in Mohammedia have denied reports circulating online that a criminal gang attacked a public bus traveling from Mohammedia to Casablanca, stating that the claims are inaccurate and unfounded.
In a statement issued Saturday, local officials clarified that the incident captured in a widely shared video was, in fact, a dispute among several individuals — including minors — who had been riding on the bus. After disembarking at one of the stops, the altercation escalated into a stone-throwing fight, resulting in the breaking of three bus windows.
The Royal Gendarmerie intervened promptly, detaining three individuals, including minors. They have been placed in custody pending an ongoing judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
Authorities urged the public and media outlets to verify information before sharing it, emphasizing the importance of avoiding the spread of misinformation.
