Mauritania streamlines E-Visa process for Moroccan truck drivers after delays

The issuance of electronic visas for Moroccan truck drivers entering Mauritania has returned to normal after weeks of delays, according to industry sources.

Drivers are now receiving their visas within 24 to 48 hours of submitting applications through the official online portal, a source in the transcontinental transport sector told Hespress AR.

The delays previously left 56 Moroccan drivers stranded for more than a week at the Guerguerat border crossing earlier this month, prompting intervention by Mauritanian authorities and Morocco’s diplomatic mission in Mauritania.

The Moroccan Embassy in Nouakchott and the Consulate in Nouadhibou followed up closely on the matter, while Mauritanian officials contacted the affected drivers to apologize for the disruption, citing a technical fault in the visa system.

The incident came months after Mauritania adopted a mandatory e-visa system for all foreign nationals. In February, authorities announced a special provision allowing Moroccan drivers involved in international road transport to obtain three-month, multiple-entry visas.

Morocco’s diplomatic mission has encouraged drivers to engage with the new procedures to ensure smoother transit between Morocco, Mauritania, and other West African countries.
