A player from Olympic Khouribga reportedly threatened to set himself on fire inside the club’s headquarters, in protest over the management’s refusal to terminate his contract, which runs until 2027, a source told Hesport.
The incident unfolded after the player requested a contract termination, seeking to leave the struggling club.
The request was denied by the club’s board, triggering a severe emotional outburst. According to the same source, the player entered a hysterical state and attempted to ignite himself.
Several team officials intervened quickly to prevent the act and avert a potential tragedy, but during the incident, the player sustained a head injury after colliding with a wall.
Authorities have since launched an investigation into the matter, which has shocked the club’s staff and supporters.
Olympic Khouribga, one of Morocco’s historic football institutions, is currently facing a turbulent season, sitting second-to-last in the second division and facing the threat of relegation to the amateur league.
