Last month, interviews were held in Ifrane, Morocco, to recruit 88 workers. The association coordinated the process with the Spanish Embassy in Rabat and Morocco’s National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC). To facilitate communication, interpreters specializing in Amazigh and Moroccan dialects assisted in the selection process.
The association secured authorization from local authorities and the Directorate General of Migration to recruit workers from both Morocco and Senegal in preparation for the citrus harvest. A similar selection process for Senegalese workers took place in mid-March, conducted remotely with assistance from the Spanish Embassy in Senegal and translators provided by the Ministry of Labor.
The organization noted that the Senegalese recruitment process was particularly successful, not only due to the professionalism of the Spanish embassy staff but also because all available positions were filled.
All selected workers from Morocco and Senegal will be employed on farms owned by members of the association. Upon the expiration of their contracts, they will return to their home countries, maintaining eligibility for future seasonal employment in Spain.
Anticipating future labor shortages in some agricultural regions, “Asaja Cordoba” has announced plans to secure additional hiring quotas for non-European foreign workers in upcoming harvest seasons.
