In 2024, Morocco recorded a milestone in its banana imports, reaching a new record by importing over 36,000 tons by the end of the year, a 28.8% increase compared to 2023.

According to data from the EastFruit platform, a specialist in agricultural statistics, this figure represents double the amount Morocco imported in 2022, with the total cost of imports exceeding 18 million dollars.

The majority of Morocco’s banana imports in 2023 came from Latin American countries, particularly Ecuador and Costa Rica, which are among the world’s largest banana exporters.

Over the past two years, the share of these countries in Morocco’s import structure has decreased, due to a significant rise in supplies from Spain and Portugal, the largest banana producers in the European Union.
