Pro-Polisario and Algerian state-affiliated media outlets have launched another disinformation campaign against Morocco, circulating an image of a destroyed military drone and falsely claiming it belonged to the Moroccan Air Force.
On Tuesday, these sources alleged that the drone was shot down in northern Mali. However, fact-checks confirm that the aircraft in question actually belonged to the Malian Air Force and was downed during clashes with local armed groups, including the Azawad Movement.
This latest misinformation effort comes amid Morocco’s growing diplomatic and strategic successes, particularly concerning the Sahara issue. Observers see these fabrications as desperate attempts by anti-Moroccan factions to undermine the Kingdom’s rising regional and international influence.
Repeated attempts to spread such fake news reveal the disarray among Morocco’s adversaries, who struggle to counter the Kingdom’s expanding military presence, developmental achievements, and diplomatic victories.
However, in the digital age—where fact-checking tools are widely accessible—such deceptive tactics are swiftly debunked, exposing their orchestrators to public scrutiny.
