Spain, Portugal, and Morocco plan joint bid for 2035 FIFA Women’s World Cup

Spain, Portugal, and Morocco have announced their intention to submit a joint bid to host the 2035 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The announcement was made on March 28, 2025, by Rafael Louzán, President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, during an event at King Juan Carlos University in Madrid.

Louzán emphasized that hosting the tournament would be a significant step in promoting women’s sports, adding that this bid mirrors the successful joint candidacy for the 2030 Men’s World Cup, which will see Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay host the opening matches.

FIFA will decide the host countries for both the 2031 and 2035 Women’s World Cups during its 76th Congress in mid-2026. Member associations have until May 5, 2025, to submit official bids.

Morocco, eager to host its first Women’s World Cup, had already expressed interest in organizing either the 2031 or 2035 edition.

The country’s growing football ambitions were reinforced by its selection as a 2030 Men’s World Cup co-host and its women’s team’s historic participation in the 2023 tournament.

Meanwhile, South Africa has withdrawn its bid for 2027, focusing instead on 2031 or 2035, while the UK is also preparing a joint bid for 2035.
