In his written inquiry dated March 18, a copy of which was obtained by Hespress, Chouki referenced widely circulated reports suggesting that young schoolgirls in Guigou may have been subjected to sexual assault.
Describing the incident as a “tragic and shocking” event, he emphasized the deep impact it has had on the local community’s sense of security.
The MP urged the minister to take swift action to provide legal protection and direct psychological support to the victims, addressing the severe trauma they have endured. He also called for essential counseling and assistance for the victims’ families, ensuring they receive the necessary support to overcome the ordeal.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of reassuring the local population that such incidents will not be repeated.
Chouki highlighted the need for stronger partnerships and coordination between all relevant stakeholders to effectively combat child exploitation and sexual violence. He questioned the ministry about the “urgent measures it will implement to ensure that the victims of sexual abuse in Guigou receive legal aid and psychological support, and to prevent the recurrence of such tragedies.”
This parliamentary inquiry comes amid growing social and human rights demands for stronger child protection mechanisms, particularly in remote areas, and for the activation of institutions dedicated to safeguarding children’s rights.
The Ministry of Solidarity, alongside the local authorities in Boulemane, is expected to clarify the steps it will take to address this sensitive case, which has sparked widespread public outrage in the region.
