As part of the scholarship programs launched by the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation, more than 500 Ghanaian students have benefited from these scholarships, including doctors, lawyers, and current government employees, while round 250 others are continuing their university studies at various institutions in Morocco.
Morocco’s ambassador to Ghana, Imane Ouaadil confirmed in statements reported by local media during a ceremony held at her residence in the capital, Accra, commemorating Ghana’s Independence Day, that over 35,000 students from 47 African countries have benefited from Moroccan scholarships since 1999.
The Moroccan diplomat also highlighted the launch of the Moroccan scholarship program for African youth in 2021, which granted over 300 merit scholarships in 119 academic fields.
She expressed hope that Ghanaian youth would take advantage of these opportunities, adding that “our embassy is ready to assist them.”
It is worth noting that Ghanaian students in Morocco organized a protest in May outside the Ghanaian embassy in Rabat, protesting delays by their government in disbursing the scholarships that had previously been allocated to them. The students highlighted the economic and psychological challenges many are facing due to the non-payment of these grants by the Ministry of Finance in Accra.
