Morocco, represented by the Moroccan Society of Radiology (SMR), was the guest of honor at the 2025 edition of the European Congress of Radiology (ECR 2025), held from February 26 to March 2 in Vienna.
As the first Arab and African country to be honored at this prestigious international event, Morocco’s participation revolved around four conferences under the theme “Radiology in Morocco: From Science and Culture to Civil Responsibility and Education.”
These sessions addressed key topics, including the El Haouz earthquake, the use of simulation in radiology education, and the richness of Moroccan culture. Presentations were delivered by SMR President Najat Cherif Idrissi El Ganouni, along with Siham Salam, Ghizlaine Lembarki, and Nadia Moussali.
The issue of social radiology was also highlighted through the Dar Zhor initiative, showcasing SMR’s commitment to cancer awareness campaigns, as well as the ARIR initiative, focused on research in medical imaging and interventional radiology in southern Morocco.
Alongside these conferences, the SMR, invited by European Society of Radiology (ESR) President Andrea Rockall, set up a Moroccan stand at ECR 2025. The stand was inaugurated in the presence of Morocco’s ambassador to Austria, Azzeddine Farhane, and the Deputy Director of the Department of Nuclear Applications at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Najat Mokhtar.
The stand provided radiologists, students, and industry professionals with an opportunity to explore not only Morocco’s dynamic radiology sector but also the beauty of the Kingdom, a land of dialogue, peace, and cultural exchange between North and South.
Participants also paid tribute to Moroccan radiologists and the SMR’s contributions to scientific advancements, particularly in Africa.
