Morocco and Kazakhstan have reaffirmed their strong diplomatic ties, with Kazakhstan expressing firm support for Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The two nations also announced the upcoming implementation of a visa-free travel agreement for holders of ordinary passports, set to take effect on March 19.

The agreement, originally signed in September 2024 on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, is expected to bolster tourism, enhance cultural and human connections, and stimulate trade between the two countries.

Expanding Tourism and Economic Ties

Industry experts and tourism professionals have welcomed the visa waiver as a step toward diversifying Morocco’s tourism market beyond its traditional European and American visitors. Sufyan Bechar, head of the Regional Association of the Hotel Industry in Drâa-Tafilalet, praised the decision, highlighting its potential to attract new tourist demographics from Central Asia.

“This agreement strengthens Morocco’s appeal as a travel destination for Kazakh tourists, many of whom seek cultural heritage and nature-based tourism,” Bechar told Hespress AR. He emphasized that easing travel restrictions would not only increase tourist arrivals but also enhance Morocco’s international tourism profile.

Morocco’s tourism sector has been experiencing record-breaking growth, with increasing visitor numbers reported at the end of 2024. Industry professionals see the new agreement as an opportunity to sustain this momentum and tap into emerging travel markets.

Beyond benefiting inbound tourism, the agreement also provides Moroccan travelers with easier access to Kazakhstan, encouraging cultural exchange and international exploration. “Every Moroccan tourist abroad serves as an ambassador of our culture, history, and traditions,” Bechar added.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The visa exemption is part of a broader effort to deepen Moroccan-Kazakh cooperation across multiple sectors. The two nations have committed to an ambitious and multidimensional roadmap to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties.

Tourism professionals in Morocco remain optimistic about the impact of the agreement, foreseeing increased economic benefits, stronger bilateral cooperation, and new market opportunities. As the policy comes into effect, both countries anticipate growing cultural and business exchanges that will further solidify their relationship.
