The Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes has introduced new procedures for settling the excess weight of imported fuel, following reports of discrepancies in the customs accounting process.
According to the circular issued on Thursday, the excess weight typically remains stored in containers at fuel storage facilities, creating a mismatch between measured densities on ships and in storage containers.
For prior imports, the excess will be settled by submitting a declaration based on the difference in density measurements between the containers and the official Energy and Minerals Laboratory, without additional steps.
For subsequent imports, excess weight will be settled based on laboratory analyses of samples from both the ship and storage containers, within tolerance limits specified on the invoice.
The move comes after the administration observed that excess weight was a result of differences in density readings between the ship and storage container measurements. The circular has directed regional administrations to complete the necessary customs procedures.
In related news, the latest report from the Competition Council revealed a 10.8% increase in total diesel and gasoline imports in Morocco, amounting to approximately 1.70 million tons.
However, the value of these imports decreased by 9.75%, totaling 14.03 billion dirhams annually. The report also indicated that nine companies accounted for 84% of total imports by volume and value.
