Moroccan Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit met with his Iraqi counterpart Abdul Ameer Kamil Al-Shammari on Tuesday in Marrakech to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in security and crime prevention.

The talks, held on the sidelines of the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, focused on deepening collaboration in countering organized crime and drug trafficking, Al-Shammari told reporters.

He added that the two sides agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding in the near future to facilitate the exchange of expertise.

The ministers also reaffirmed the strong ties between Morocco and Iraq, highlighting shared interests in security and law enforcement.

The Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, held under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI, is organized by Morocco’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics in partnership with the World Health Organization.

Themed “Commit to Life,” the event is drawing official delegations from more than 100 countries, including ministers responsible for transport, interior affairs, infrastructure, and health.
