More than two years after Morocco legalized cannabis-based products, the industry is experiencing a significant boom, marked by the introduction of over 22 diverse products that combine innovation with the highest quality standards.

The national market now offers a wide range of dietary supplements, such as cannabidiol (CBD) oil, which promotes relaxation and improves sleep quality.

Additionally, therapeutic products designed to alleviate joint pain, headaches, and hair loss have emerged, alongside advanced cosmetic items that enhance skin softness and stimulate hair growth.

This progress is the result of collaborative efforts from various stakeholders, including the National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis-Related Activities, the National Office for Food Safety, and the Directorate of Medicines and Pharmacy. These institutions have ensured that the products comply with health and international standards while incorporating Moroccan ingredients such as argan oil and prickly pear.

Aziz Makhlouf, a representative of a specialized cannabis company, stated that the Moroccan market has seen the release of over 22 different products, including dietary supplements like CBD oil, as well as treatments for joint pain, headaches, and sleep improvement. Speaking to Hespress AR, Makhlouf highlighted that the arrival of these products in Morocco is the result of extensive efforts by regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with health standards and product quality.

Regarding the types of available products, Makhlouf described CBD oil as beneficial for relaxation, sleep enhancement, and symptom relief for conditions such as epilepsy and insomnia.

Other supplements help alleviate headaches and joint pain, combat hair loss, and improve skin softness, providing a soothing effect. He emphasized that these high-quality products meet international standards while maintaining a Moroccan identity by incorporating locally sourced natural ingredients.

Despite these achievements, Makhlouf acknowledged several challenges facing the sector, such as increasing awareness of Moroccan cannabis products and enhancing their global competitiveness.

He stressed the need to develop an integrated ecosystem that aligns with market expectations, improve agricultural productivity, and train small-scale farmers in best agricultural practices to ensure industry sustainability.

Makhlouf expressed confidence in the sector’s steady growth, highlighting its potential to position Morocco as a reliable global supplier of legal cannabis products.

On the medical front, Khalid Zouine, President of the National Council of the National Union of Pharmacists of Morocco, stated that the only available cannabis-based medical product in Moroccan pharmacies is a pain-relief medication. In an interview with Hespress AR, he explained that this treatment could be a viable solution for patients suffering from severe pain.

However, Zouine noted that the integration of cannabis-derived medical products into Morocco’s healthcare system remains in its early stages. He recommended organizing training sessions to educate doctors on prescribing these treatments and raising awareness among pharmacists to facilitate patient access to such medications.

As Morocco’s legal cannabis industry continues to evolve, it presents a promising opportunity for economic growth and medical advancements, reinforcing the country’s position in the global cannabis market.
