Exports of handicraft products totaled nearly MAD 1.11 billion in 2024, reflecting a 3% increase compared to 2023, as noted by the regional director of crafts in Fes, Abderrahim Belkhayat.
According to data presented by the Handicrafts Department during a meeting chaired by the Secretary of State for Crafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, Lahcen Saadi, with various stakeholders, the crafts sector generates an estimated annual turnover of 140 billion dirhams, contributing 7% to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
This includes 96.3 billion dirhams from the production crafts category and 43.7 billion dirhams from the services crafts category.
The official also emphasized that 251 artisans have earned national quality labels, and that 275,000 craft units, along with 2,063 businesses, are operating nationwide.
