A tribute karaoke concert of late Algerian artists Cheb Hasni and Cheb Akil that was set to take place in Tangier on January 31 was canceled following objections from the artists’ families.
The families reportedly opposed the event due to its location in Morocco, amidst ongoing tensions between the two countries.
Tickets sold can either be refunded or used to enter another concert that will feature Moroccan rai artists, the organizing company announced in a press release.
Cheb Hasni fans were also shocked when promotions for his hologram concert, initially scheduled for Casablanca, were removed from official ticket sales platforms and event pages, despite weeks of heavy promotion and enthusiasm from rai music lovers.
These cancellations add to a series of artistic disruptions influenced by strained Morocco-Algeria relations, including past boycotts and concert bans targeting Algerian performers in Morocco.
