Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) thwarted a major terrorist plot in its final preparation stages early Sunday morning, arresting four suspects linked to the Islamic State (ISIS). The suspects, including three brothers aged 26, 29, and 31, were operating in the Had Soualem area of Berrechid province, authorities said.
The operation, conducted with intelligence from the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), involved special forces, bomb-detection experts, canine units, and a Royal Gendarmerie helicopter with specialized snipers. Raids were carried out at two residences in Had Soualem, uncovering materials suspected of being used to manufacture explosives.

Authorities seized knives, chemical bottles, fertilizer, sulfur, coal powder, electrical wires, and welding equipment. All materials were sent for forensic analysis to determine their intended use.
Investigations began after a video surfaced showing the suspects pledging allegiance to ISIS and vowing to carry out terrorist attacks. Intelligence revealed that the group purchased chemicals from multiple stores and conducted reconnaissance of potential targets, documenting them with photos and videos.

The suspects reportedly planned to execute bombing operations before traveling to ISIS camps in the Sahel region.
The four detainees remain in custody under judicial supervision while investigations continue. Authorities aim to uncover links to regional and global terrorist networks and identify additional associates.
