An imam from the El Maachat commune near Safi has been arrested by the Royal Gendarmerie for sexually assaulting minors and producing child pornography.
According to the daily newspaper Assabah, the investigation revealed that the 50-year-old man filmed his criminal acts.
The number of victims, initially estimated at eight, has risen to fourteen.
The imam’s mobile phone, containing evidence, was seized.
The case was initiated by the complaint of a mother concerned about her child’s behavior.
The imam, confronted with evidence and testimonies, confessed to the crimes. His trial is imminent.
