Tourism revenue in Morocco is projected to surpass USD 10.7 billion (MAD 110 billion) in 2024, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, revealed on Tuesday during a session at the House of Representatives.
In a meeting focused on the tourism sector, Ammor announced that Morocco welcomed a record 17.4 million tourists in 2024, marking a 20% increase from 2023 and 35% from 2019, solidifying its position as Africa’s top tourist destination.
The industry currently employs 827,000 people and has helped create 25,000 new jobs in the past year, thanks to measures aligned with the Royal High Guidelines, including a MAD 2 billion emergency plan and a new tourism roadmap with a budget of MAD 6.1 billion, the minister highlighted.
Regarding the “Cap Hospitality” program, which is part of Morocco’s preparations to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the governmental official emphasized that it aims to accelerate the modernization of classified tourist accommodation establishments, with the goal of renovating 25,000 rooms through an investment of MAD 2 billion.
Concerning human resource qualification in the tourism sector, the minister spoke about the launch of 14 new professional and higher education training programs, supporting initiatives aimed at improving training offerings in tourism and hospitality, in partnership with the Office for Vocational Training and Employment Promotion (OFPPT), as well as the launch of the “Kafaa” program.
On the subject of domestic tourism, the minister confirmed that it is now a crucial pillar of Morocco’s tourism sector, with nearly 8.5 million overnight stays in classified hotels in 2024, accounting for 30% of the total overnight stays in these establishments.
