Director General of the National Security and the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, Adelatif Hammouchi, met Monday in Rabat with Salman Choudhry, acting inspector general of police at Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior, who is leading a high-level security delegation on a working visit.

According to a statement from the National Security and Territorial Surveillance directorates, the talks focused on strengthening bilateral security cooperation and expanding its scope, particularly in areas like combating illegal immigration networks and human trafficking.

The discussions followed a recent tragedy in which several Pakistani nationals died after an illegal migrant boat capsized off the coast of Dakhla.

The statement also noted that the meeting provided Choudhry an opportunity to thank Moroccan authorities for their swift rescue efforts in response to the incident, on behalf of Pakistan’s leadership.

The two sides also explored ways to enhance counterterrorism cooperation, given the growing threat posed by terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda and ISIS, particularly in the region’s proximity to conflict zones.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to increase information-sharing and exchange best practices to address the various security risks facing both countries.
