Morocco’s Agriculture Minister Ahmed El Bouari called for stronger international cooperation on food security and sustainable agriculture during his speech at the International Green Week in Berlin on Friday.
Speaking alongside German officials, El Bouari highlighted Morocco’s commitment to transforming its food system through innovations in bioeconomy, such as converting agro-industrial waste into bioenergy and creating value-added agricultural products.
“We must prioritize food security as we transition toward a sustainable bioeconomy,” El Bouari said. “Through initiatives like ‘Green Generation,’ we’re tackling climate challenges and building a resilient food system that can withstand future shocks.”
El Bouari also announced the creation of a joint working group with Germany’s Ministry of Agriculture to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agriculture, focusing on sustainable practices and resource management.
“This collaboration will allow us to share innovations and build solutions that can benefit both our nations and the wider world,” he said.
The announcement came as Morocco showcased its agricultural products at the event, promoting local goods like argan oil, olive oil, and saffron, as well as high-value items from rural cooperatives, including those from regions impacted by last year’s earthquake.
“Our participation here is an opportunity to show the world Morocco’s agricultural potential and our commitment to quality and sustainability,” El Bouari added.
