Private Casablanca clinic summoned after two women die in childbirth
Monday 13 January 2025 - 17:42
The family of a woman who passed away during childbirth at a private clinic in Casablanca has taken legal action, seeking a thorough judicial investigation into the circumstances of her death.

The deceased’s family, with the support of the National Association for the Defense of Human Rights and Public Funds Protection, filed a formal complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Casablanca on Monday morning.

The woman’s husband, who identified her as Kenza, stated that they turned to the judiciary to uncover the truth behind her death. He explained that his wife had been in good health before being admitted to the clinic, only to leave in a coffin.

In an interview with Hespress, the grieving husband recounted the events leading up to her death. He shared that he had accompanied his wife to the clinic on Tuesday morning for childbirth, as recommended by her doctor. According to him, she exhibited no health issues upon admission.

“I was waiting for her and our baby to come out of the delivery room,” he said. “The baby was brought out without her, and I was informed of a ‘minor issue.’”

He described how he anxiously waited for answers from the medical staff, who maintained a concerning level of silence. By 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, he was finally informed of her passing.

The rights association, led by Abdelilah Tatoch, emphasized in their complaint that this was not an isolated incident. On the same day, a similar death reportedly occurred at the same clinic, under comparable circumstances. This raises serious questions about the quality of care provided.

The association has urged the Public Prosecutor to instruct the relevant judicial police to launch an investigation. They requested that the obstetrician, anesthesiologist, and other medical staff involved in the childbirth process be interrogated, along with the clinic’s director and any personnel linked to the case.

The case highlights growing concerns about accountability in private healthcare facilities and underscores the need for comprehensive investigations to ensure justice and prevent further tragedies.
