The Royal Gendarmerie in Sidi Ifni has successfully dismantled an organized network involved in illegal immigration operations aimed at the Spanish islands.
The operation follows an investigation initiated by the gendarmerie under the oversight of the public prosecutor’s office, after thwarting an illegal immigration attempt on Friday in the Asbouya region. Investigations into the case led to the arrest of seven individuals, including one woman, with six more suspects wanted for their involvement in facilitating illegal immigration. Most of the suspects are reportedly from Tiznit and Boulfâa.
In addition, authorities uncovered a failed migration attempt on Friday, resulting in the arrest of 36 Moroccan nationals, including one woman, who were attempting to reach the Spanish islands illegally. Two organizers were also apprehended during the operation. The gendarmerie seized an SUV, a jet engine, an inflatable boat, and about 300 liters of gasoline stored in 25-liter barrels.
Authorities are continuing their investigations into the network, and arrests are expected to follow as part of an ongoing effort to combat human trafficking and illegal migration activities in the region.
