Amid the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza, Morocco’s Jewish community continued its annual “Hiloula” celebrations, with the latest held in Taroudant on Wednesday.
Despite initial concerns over the timing, the event proved successful, attracting several Jewish visitors and was attended by key figures, including Saaid Amzazi, governor of Souss-Massa, Mabrouk Tabet, governor of Taroudant, as well as the president of the regional religious council and other local and military officials.
Jacky Kadouch, president of the Jewish community in Marrakesh-Safi, told Hespress “all Jews worldwide envy their Moroccan counterparts because of this peaceful coexistence.”
He added that while there were fears about holding the celebrations during the Gaza conflict, those concerns faded as the events unfolded smoothly across Morocco.
Kadouch stressed that “Morocco is a historically tolerant land where Jews have lived in peace for centuries.”
“We didn’t feel afraid. We felt the same internal security we’ve always had here,” he said.
