“Russia highly appreciates Morocco’s balanced stance to the ongoing events in Ukraine,” said Russian Ambassador to Morocco Vladimir Baibakov in a statement to the state-owned news agency in Russia TASS.
The Russian diplomat also expressed appreciation for “Rabat’s refusal to engage in anti-Russian actions regarding the situation in Ukraine.”
He emphasized that Morocco is a friendly country and a strategic partner for Russia, adding that the special nature of this relationship is fortified by agreements signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and King Mohammed VI of Morocco.
“These ties have stood the test of time, enduring geopolitical turbulence and the financial and economic crises of recent years,” underscored Baibakov according to the same source.
The diplomat acknowledged the challenges posed by Western sanctions, particularly in the area of banking services. He emphasized, however, that through constructive cooperation, “Russia and Morocco have managed to resolve all issues, ensuring mutually beneficial outcomes for the citizens of both nations.
Baibakov further emphasized that “active political dialogue was maintained between Moscow and Rabat,” citing the participation of the Moroccan delegation, led by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, in the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum ministerial conference held in Sochi in November 2024.
In 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed the wish to see Russian-Moroccan relations further strengthen and continue the momentum launched during the historic visit of King Mohammed VI to Russia in 2016.
“During this visit, a deep strategic partnership was established, covering a wide range of areas of cooperation, including agriculture, energy, fisheries, science and technology, culture and higher education,” he recalled.
