Amid growing unrest in Algeria, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced his commitment to launching a “national political dialogue” to address the country’s internal challenges and enhance basic rights.
His speech, delivered before both chambers of parliament, emphasized the need for an inclusive and meaningful dialogue that would reinforce fundamental rights through constitutional and legal reforms.
Tebboune also promised to pursue reforms aimed at strengthening national unity and restoring public trust in the justice system, while continuing efforts to combat corruption.
However, Tebboune’s call for dialogue comes amid widespread protests fueled by a campaign led by local activists and members of the Algerian diaspora, symbolized by the hashtag #Manish_radi .
The movement urges the army to return to its barracks and refrain from interfering in political affairs, insisting that the management of the state’s affairs should be left to civilians.
The hashtag, accompanied by video clips expressing public dissatisfaction, has sparked calls for a shift to civilian rule, reflecting the demand for an end to decades of military dominance in politics.
