Spain's Tarifa Port closes amid severe wind storm
Thursday 26 December 2024 - 17:28

The Port of Tarifa (southern Spain) was closed on Thursday to traffic due to adverse weather conditions and strong winds affecting the Strait of Gibraltar.

According to the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras, all maritime services have been canceled as a safety precaution because of the wind storm currently sweeping through the Strait of Gibraltar.

The same sources emphasize that no connections between Tarifa and Tangier’s Tanger-Ville Port will be operated until weather conditions improve.

The Spanish National Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has maintained a yellow alert for strong winds in the Strait of Gibraltar.

Winds in the port area are blowing at a speed of 50 to 61 km/h (force 7), occasionally reaching 52 to 74 km/h (force 8).
