Morocco’s artificial groundwater recharge program, which involves the strategic enhancement of aquifer levels through human-managed methods, is set to save several oases after recent rains, according to Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, Baraka highlighted the positive impact of September and October’s rainfall on many oases, noting the government’s focus on preserving these ecosystems.
In response to a question at the Chamber of Councillors about the urgency of drilling wells to protect oases, Baraka emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing water shortages in irrigation areas.
He also announced that those with well permits can now deepen their wells to help save oases and fruit trees.
