A radiology technician at the public hospital in Ouarzazate refused to treat two French tourists injured in a car accident, citing his “religious beliefs” that prevent him from working with or touching women. After a cursory diagnosis by a local doctor, the tourists left Morocco, but upon returning to France, medical tests revealed multiple fractures that had been missed.
Outraged, the women filed a lawsuit for medical negligence. Bouazza Kherrati, president of the Moroccan Consumer Rights Association, condemned the incident as a sign of extremism within a public institution, calling for urgent action to prevent such incidents and protect the reputation of Morocco’s healthcare system. The case has been referred to the Ministry of Health.
