Estimated Cost of 2030 World Cup Between $15-20 Billion for Morocco, Spain, and Portugal

The 2030 World Cup, hosted jointly by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, is estimated to cost between 15 and 20 billion U.S. dollars (approximately 150 to 200 billion Moroccan dirhams).

This cost is similar to the 2026 World Cup in North America but significantly lower than the 220 billion dollars spent on the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Morocco’s share of the costs, projected at 5 to 6 billion dollars (50 to 60 billion dirhams), will cover the organization of 30 matches across six cities, along with infrastructure investments and stadium renovations.

FIFA has estimated an average cost of 1.97 billion dollars per host country, with additional expenses expected for stadium upgrades, training facilities, and transportation infrastructure.

The Moroccan government will contribute 25 billion dirhams, with additional funding from public enterprises and other sources.

In Spain, the World Cup is expected to generate around 5.12 billion euros for the economy, with tourism spending exceeding 5.5 billion euros. While Spain’s costs are expected to reach 1.43 billion euros, the country will benefit from reduced expenses due to the shared organization.

The estimated costs for Spain are around 1.43 billion euros, with major expenses including broadcast rights (320 million euros) and team salaries (240 million euros).

Portugal, as one of the smaller hosts, is expected to contribute about 350 million euros in costs. However, it stands to benefit from a positive impact on its GDP, expected to range from 800 million to 1 billion euros.

With between 300,000 and 500,000 visitors expected, local spending could reach between 500 and 660 million euros. Portugal is also expected to create 20,000 jobs and see positive effects in tourism and workforce quality.

This event will be a first for Portugal, which has never hosted a World Cup, although it organized the 2004 European Championship. Spain has hosted the World Cup twice—once in 1982—and Morocco is preparing for its second Africa Cup of Nations in late 2025, having previously hosted the competition in 1988.
