To date, the ‘Cities without Slums’ program has improved living conditions for over 358,000 households, Secretary of State for Housing Adib Benbrahim told the House of Representatives on Monday.
Responding to a question by the National Rally of Independents (RNI) on “the state of implementation of the Cities without Slums program”, Benbrahim pointed out that, so far, this program has made 61 cities and urban centers slum-free, at a total cost of 61 billion dirhams, with a 14 billion dirhams contribution from the Housing ministry.
Since January 2024, the living conditions of 11,777 households have been improved, and the pace of processing the cases of concerned families has accelerated, the Secretary of State stressed, pointing out that the number of beneficiary households has increased by 187% from 6,200 (2018 -2021) to around 17,700 per year (2022 – 2024).
Some 85,948 families are to benefit from units completed or under construction, he said, noting that a new intervention process has been adopted as part of the 2024-2028 five-year program to eradicate the remaining slams (around 120,000 families concerned).
This operation is based on a method of resettlement within the framework of social housing or dwellings valued at less than 300,000 dirhams, in addition to the use of social housing units already built (250,000 dirhams) by public and private property developers, he stated.
