A Moroccan man and his German wife were found in good health on Monday after being trapped by heavy snowfall in a rugged mountainous area between the provinces of Tinghir and Azilal.
The couple, identified as Rashid Harchaoui and his wife, had been missing since Friday evening while on an exploratory trip between Amsmir and Zaouiat Ahansal, prompting a swift response from Moroccan authorities and the deployment of rescue teams, assisted by friends of the missing pair.
According to local sources, the rescue operation was carried out by a Royal Gendarmerie helicopter, which airlifted the couple to Azilal for medical attention after they were unable to continue their journey due to the thick snow blocking their path.
As soon as the couple was reported missing, the Royal Gendarmerie and local authorities from both the Tinghir and Azilal provinces launched extensive search efforts, despite the challenging weather conditions, including heavy snow and rain.
The governor of the region, along with the Ministry of the Interior, the Royal Gendarmerie, and other agencies, closely monitored the operation and instructed teams to continue searching, mobilizing all necessary resources to locate the couple.
The area where the couple went missing is known for its rugged terrain and stunning natural landscapes, but it also presents a significant challenge for hikers, particularly in extreme weather conditions.
This incident has underscored the importance of exercising caution and preparing adequately for trips in mountainous areas, especially during inclement weather.
