The Moroccan Association for International Road Transport announced Thursday that it has suspended its planned strike set for Saturday, November 2, 2024. The decision comes in response to what the association described as “positive interactions” with relevant authorities regarding the challenging conditions faced by transport companies and professionals in the sector.
In a statement received by Hespress, the association expressed satisfaction with the various initiatives and communications established with responsible parties, leading to the decision to halt the strike. The statement noted, “Given the positive atmosphere resulting from efforts with different authorities at the regional and central levels, we declare to the professional and national public that the strike is suspended.”
The association highlighted that its representatives engaged in continuous meetings with officials from key ministries, including the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Transport, as well as the General Directorate of Customs and Indirect Taxes and the Tangier-Mediterranean Port Authority. It reported that officials showed understanding of the professionals’ demands and discussed outstanding logistical, financial, and administrative issues.
Transport Minister Abdessamad Kayouh expressed a strong willingness to address all points raised during constructive discussions with the association’s leadership, indicating a commitment to resolving these issues in the coming days.
Regarding the management of the Tangier-Mediterranean Port, the statement noted that port authorities and customs officials pledged to implement necessary measures to alleviate obstacles affecting the passage of trucks carrying goods, ensuring transit occurs within reasonable timeframes according to established regulations.
